TAPPING ON THE LATENT DEMAND
The company has journeyed far from its humble beginnings in 2007 when two 21-year-old school buddies, Kenneth and Lexus, who knew no fear and knew no better, had the idea to sex up the car Kenneth’s parents had bought him. Kenneth was the real petrol head, and Lexus more the business brain.
They quickly realised that they weren’t alone and that plenty of motorists loved their cars and wanted to take care of them in the best way possible. And so the journey began …
CUSTOMER REQUESTS DRIVE THE BUSINESS FORWARD
The indominable duo first had the idea to bring in car alarms and when response was good and they listened to their customers, and brought in other accessories to help owners modify their cars.
Working on a shoestring budget, they had no office and operated their business from their mobile phones, already way ahead of the curve.
INSTALLHUB BORN
When customers started coming to them requesting installation services, they turned to Mr Chang, who they employed as Head Mechanic. It wasn’t long before Mr Chang took partnership in the company and InstallHub was branded. InstallHub is the only service provider ZMC uses to manage its installations.
“We simply wouldn’t still be here today without Mr Chang,” the two entrepreneurs confirm.
A DRIVE TO DELIVER EVEN MORE
Recognising that they had to offer more than car alarms and installation, the pair ventured to Korea and China in search of great brands that they could represent in Singapore. Their journey wasn’t wasted and they started to build the 10 brands they represent today. However, they were selective in the selection.
“We want to deliver the best to our customers,” says Lexus, “and we knew that whatever we brought back, it had to be quality and it had to be different.’
BUILDING NETWORKS AND BETTER CHOICES
The boys attended their first automotive exhibition in 2009 and never looked back. They were even the pioneers of the dashcam in Singapore, trying to install their own before they brought in the established brand Thinkware. Since then, they’ve attended Cars at Expo, the IT Show, Comex, the PC Show and the Motor Show to name a few. The goal at each is to create awareness for the ZMC brand and make new connections that can service their clients even better.
ZMC EXPANSION
From there, expansion happened rapidly and ZMC has gone from a five-pax operation in 2015 to and 25-strong team today, bringing in revenues in excess of $5 million.
In 2016, ZMC made its presence known in Indonesia, and entered Malaysia in 2017.
Next stop - Dominate Asia.
